Alec Butcher

Alec Butcher. Our dad died on the 4th of June 2009 following a 5 week stay in hospital.He went in hospital with a chest infection which led to other numerous problems,most of which he could not overcome.He is now at peace with our mum in Heaven.Our dad was born and raised in Penistone.He had three brothers,Donny,Milton and Brian.He met his wife(our mum)Flora at a dance in 1953 and they married the following year.They were married for 53 years until Flora sadly passed away.Together they had 5 children,James,who sadly died at birth,Carole,Adrian who sadly died in 1988,Angie and Cliff.They also had 11 grandchildren,Donna,Dean,Terri,Darryl,Chantelle,Paige,Sonia,Tony,Kelly,Alex and Lewis.Also they had 10 great grandchildren Amy,Nathan,Jasmin,James,Nathan,Casey,Ethan,Kian,Levi and Kyle.Our dad Alec spent sometime in the army based in Cyprus.After he left the army he spent the rest of his working life as a H.G.V driver up until his retirement.Unfortunately soon after he retired he suffered a stroke and for the next 10 years he was cared for by his wife(our mum)Flora and Carers. When our mum became ill and could no longer look after Dad he went into Rocklet Dene nursing home.It took him quite a while to settle there as he could be very cantankerous and used to run rings around the carers,(but he loved them really).He always thought he was the boss of the TV room and was always hugging the tv remote(if anyone wanted it he would tell thm where to go)!!! and he loved his couple of cans of Stones beer and his Jelly Mousse and his soup. Dad loved his Grandchildren,who used to visit him every week.He liked nothing better than giving them piggy back rides down the stairs,or letting them practice their hairdressing skills on him,Although his favourite hairdresser was his daughter Angie!!!. For many years Dad used to go to his Daughter Carole and Pats house for christmas dinner and used to go to the Ashfield club before dinner for a pint or two and a whiskey with Pat Tony and Dean. New year was usually spent at Cliff and Jeanetts and Angie and Marks homes.Dads hobbies included Watching football,Snooker,Westerns and Goldenballs on the tele and listening to Country music and Shirley Bassey on the radio and loved nothing better than dropping to sleep listening to his favourite radio 2!!!.He was tough as old boots was our dad.We thought we were going to lose him on numerouse occasions during the last few years but he always came bouncing back,Sadly this time he didnt.We would like to thank all carers who looked after our dad,(old and new)and the staff at Rockley Dene who cared for him during the last few years.We love and miss you Dad and hope you are happy with all your family and Mum in Heaven sleep peacefully xxxxx
